Mowing the Lawn in Chatswood

This property is set on a quarter acre block and is bordered by trees and shrubs. Both the front yard and backyard are grassed. The backyard is much larger than the front yard. We cut the grass using a petrol driven lawn mower with a height setting of one inch. The lawn mower has a grass catcher. We use the cut grass clippings as a mulch for the garden beds.

Trimming the lawn edges

Once we have finished mowing the lawn we set about trimming the edges along the pathways and where the lawn meets the garden beds. For this job, we use a 25.4cc 1 horsepower 2 stroke petrol driven edger. This gives us the power to create straight edges and create a small 2-inch deep trench. This is good for collecting rainwater

Fertilising the lawn

Once mowing all the lawns and trimming the edges we fertilise the grass. We use an organic fertiliser from Hortico. The granules eventually filter through the lawn and release their nutrients into the soil.

Weeding the garden

The final task of this project is the removal of weeds from the garden beds. As we have been mulching the garden beds and creating a natural cover the weeds find it difficult to take purchase in the soil. However, the few weeds that manage to take hold still need to be removed or eventually, they will start to populate the bed and suck up the nutrients from the soil.
